Let Go

We all have that friend that brings out a side of us we don’t like. The person that people can’t quite understand why they are still around; at times, you ask yourself the same question. ‘Why is this person in my life?’ If there is a person who isn’t allowing positivity in your life the only solution is: LET GO. It doesn’t matter how many times they say “I will change”; the fact of the matter is: they won’t. You will continually look silly for going back to them. Today is Wednesday and we challenge you to be courageous enough to let go of those who bring you down. It doesn’t make you a bad person. It makes you a strong person for realizing you deserve better. You become like the 5 people you spend your most time with. CHOOSE WISELY.

Year of The Snake

Hello Dearest Betties and Happy New Year!

We’ve been gone for a few weeks to spend time with our families for the holidays but now we’re back and ready to make 2013 the best year yet!

This year is our year, Betties. It is also the year of the Snake. Do you ever take a look at the place mat under your delicious bowl of Wonton Soup and see 12 animals? Along with the animals comes years under the different animals. The years correspond with the animal and well you get it. If you don’t.. now you do:
chinese-zodiac-calendar

The Chinese New Year or “Spring Festival” begins every January or February and runs through the next January. This year it begins on February 10 and each New Year runs as a 15 day festival. It is their biggest holiday and celebration.

Everyone says “oh, a new year, new beginnings” and people may be sick of hearing it but the people who actually want to do something different will and our hats are off to you. Go BIG!

If you were born in 1989 except big things, we do!

If you want to learn more about the Snake or your own Chinese Zodiac Year check out this site.

Just Like The Beatles Said..

let it be

At the end of the game, pawns and kings go back into the same box. -Italian Proverb

You know those “empowering” calendars? The ones with the black backgrounds with pictures of scenery, triumph and positivity and an inspirational quote… That’s where we found the above. It got us thinking.

No matter where in life you start out; whether it be broke or graced by wealth, in the end we all end up in the same place. Anything you had in this life or perhaps lack there of wont matter. Nothing will matter.

Don’t take this wrong, or as negativity look at it more like your mid-week reality session. Dissect the quote above, do you feel like your life is constantly a competition with someone else? Is someone getting something bigger and better than you..you’re jealous? It’s time to fix that twisted view.

So that leaves you with two choices; continue on with your life or change it. Change your perspective on life and the world around you will change. Don’t let your life be a strict rule book but don’t be stagnant either. When life hands you an opportunity, pursue it don’t pass it up. Respect people and earn respect back. Jealousy is evil and a little bit is healthy but maybe that “bigger and better” was deserving. As humans we don’t know every persons strength and determination or weakness. Try to judge less and accept more. We truly never know what will happen next.

For the life planners, sit back and relax. We can guarantee your life won’t go exactly as planned and that’s perfectly OK.We say this with experience as both of us know our lives are very different from we originally thought and that’s great!

Probably overly clichéd but next time you hear The Beatles song “Let it Be” don’t just listen to music, hear the words.

Life will work out just fine Betties!

Most Fascinating Person 2012

People, we live in a sad world when a 7-year-old reality star is considered for such an honor as: Barbara Walters Most Fascinating Person of the Year.

In this day and age we get it, entertainment rules everything. However, when more people watched Here Comes Honey Boo Boo than the presidential debate.. that’s sad.

If you don’t know Honey Boo Boo, her real name is Alana Thompson. Her TV debut came from the show Toddlers and Tiaras, you know the show where parents dress their 3-7 year old girls like mini-prostitutes? (Sorry we’re not sorry). Well from there came Alana, her mother the “Coupon Queen” and the rest of the family on her spin-off show Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.

Here’s the thing, we don’t hate this little girl and her family we just don’t like and understand why this is what Americans have succumb to for their entertainment. If one little girl who drinks “Go-Go Juice” (a mixture of Red Bull and Mountain Dew, which her mom provides) to get her hyped for pageants can make it on TV than why not anyone in this country. How about we spend that money on things we actually need in this economy. Anyways we got our rant out, enough about her.

Last year for example, Barbara Walters picked the late Steve Jobs for her most Fascinating Person..job well done Barb. We bet most of you are reading this on your Mac Books and iPhone’s too, ha.

Every December Walters produces a list of 10 people, celebrities, groups, politicians, etc. and has a brief interview with each then picks her favorite. In the running this year along with Honey Boo Boo are; New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, One Direction, Ben Affleck, Olympian Gabby Douglas, Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Prince Harry,Director of the CIA David Petraeus and Fifty Shades of Grey author E.L. James. That’s a solid list and we totally get why 9 of the 10 made the cut. Clearly she picks based on who brought the top stories and entertainment to the world this year.

Furthermore, the show airs tonight on ABC and the word around the web is that David Petraeus, the general who had an affair with his biographer, is the winner. He was also crowned the title in 2010.

Our top 3 picks from that list would have been: Seth MacFarlane, E.L. James or Chris Christie.

Betties, let us know what you think about the list, do you agree with the choices and the winner?

Booty Blasters

If you are like us, you have spent hours on different sites trying to find the PERFECT booty exercises. There are so many DVD‘s on the market such as Brazilian Butt Lift, Your Best Butt Fast, and Exhale: Core Fusion – Thighs & Glutes. The downside to DVD’s are how pricey they are. If you already have a gym membership, adding on those additional prices isn’t logical.

Thanks to Fitness Magazine; we found an amazing Seven Day Treadmill routine that blasts 2,000 calories and targets areas such as your glutes and thighs.

We also found 9 ways to sculpt your buns at home! Check it out here.

Remember: The most effective way to get a bootylicious backside is to stick with it! These are the workouts we have personally used and have found them VERY effective.

Things We Love: Knock Knock Products

Every now and then we come across products that we absolutely love and of course we want to share them all with you!

Knock Knock products are for the comedians, the passive aggressive types, the dysfunctional ones and of course the writers. We say this with love and well, because it’s true. Once you look through some of their products you’ll love them.

They offer; journals, notepads, stamps, sticky notes, stuff for your dorm room and more!

.

They make their products so fun and unique that even if it is a note that starts off with “things you do that really piss me off” it’s still lighthearted.

We originally found one of Knock Knock‘s mini journals at Pier One. While flipping through it and laughing at the random quotes and sarcastic nature we decided we had to find more products and more products we found!

The office products are sure to help ease some tension when your boss tells you something you don’t want to hear.

Check out their site (Knock Knock Stuff) for even more fab finds. Another great idea for a Christmas gift!

Silver Lining

As a Betty, there is one thing that doesn’t sit well with us; failure. That F word is our least favorite, even seeing it makes us cringe. Unfortunately, it is apart of life. Why spend hours beating yourself down about not achieving a goal? Did you give it your all? Of course you did! A true Betty doesn’t half-ass ANYTHING. Instead, try to find the silver lining in your so-called ‘failure’.

“Success comes through rapidly fixing our mistakes rather than getting things right first time.”

Imagine getting everything you wanted the first time. Would the word ‘success’ have any meaning at all? Would you be able to really appreciate those moments of accomplishment? Probably not. As cliché as “everything happens for a reason” sounds, it’s 100% true. Life is a serious of lessons. Things happen because it’s apart of your journey.

If you are now feeling down on yourself; you have two options: sulk, regress, and live in fear that you will never succeed OR keep fighting. Have faith that your purpose in life is bigger than one situation that didn’t go as planned. Keep this in mind.

dalailama

This may seem very hard to see, but in the grand scheme of things, it’s true. The journey you are on right now was meant to happen. Take this time to re-evaluate if what you were trying to accomplish was something you wanted. Whole heatedly. If it wasn’t; seek out the opportunities that will soon arise.

Out of clutter, find SIMPLICITY. From discord, find HARMONY. In the middle of difficulty lies OPPORTUNITY.

It’s Monday, Betties. Start your week off fresh. Let go of past mistakes. Acknowledge your worth and understand what lies ahead is far better than what you left behind.

Be Kind

Every December, a story enters into my brain about a random ‘act of kindness‘ that a person decided to bestow upon our family about 18-20 years ago. Times were tough and my parents were struggling to raise three children under 10 especially at their young age of 28 and 30. One day, my parents went out to our old beat up Pinto that didn’t have much kick left it in to find an envelope in the front seat. Not sure what to think, they opened it and found $500 with a note instructing them to spend this money on our family for Christmas. Presents, a tree, lights, and whatever else one would need to make the holiday not go unnoticed for us children. To this day, we are not sure who it was that left that envelope. It was one of the best Christmases to date (at least for me) because I learned a valuable lesson.

I learned that being kind to others is very important. Every person is fighting their own battle. To be free from their past. To live in their present. And to create their future. We’re all in this journey together. If we can make it less stressful on each other, wouldn’t that make for a better world?

It’s easy to remember this during the holidays since we’re in a giving frame of mind. Being kind goes past December. Take baby steps. Hold a door open for someone. Smile at a stranger as you walk past them. Ask each person you converse with how their day is going. You will be shocked at the response. Kindness IS contagious.

We challenge you to start TODAY to make it a point to do something friendly to either a stranger or someone you know each day. We promise you will touch many lives by doing so!

What Did You Learn This Week?

Let’s be honest, we learn lessons even small ones every day but do you ever take the time to write them down?

With life going so quick we decided that writing down our weekly lessons would be our best bet at remembering and learning from them. I guess you could say this more for us but we like to share aspects of our lives with in hopes we can help you too!

lessonslearned

This weeks life lesson: People are willing to help you.

Seriously. I graduated over a year ago and I am still looking for a career, ya I know a lot of people in the same boat. However, I was recently contacted by an employment agency. If you don’t know what they do (look it up for a better definition) but they basically help find you a seasonal, temp, or day-to-day jobs that will usually turn permanent.

I have applied to jobs overall for the past year, with her help I’ve been on interviews, gotten interviewing tips, my résumé fixed, etc. SO much quality help.

The reason this is a lesson is because I will be going out-of-town in the next few weeks, which means no interviews, and you would think she would just stop helping me since there is no real point, right?

Wrong! She is still graciously helping me and keeping in contact. It actually opened up my eyes about (myself) keeping in contact with people and how special it feels to know that someone is taking that extra time and effort to help out someone else.

From us to you: just know there are people who will and want to help you. You may have to change-up your plans a little and that’s OK, it’s all worth it in the end. Always remember to send them an extra special thank you too.

Every now and then we should all be somebody’s help in time of need.

Have a great weekend Betties!

Weekly Inspiration: Half Full

Is your cup half full or half empty?

Well, from this Betty’s point-of-view growing up it was always half empty. Not because I had a bad childhood at all, but because that’s just the way the cookie crumbled, no blame on anyone. Nowadays, its more three-quarters-full! It was wasn’t an easy ride though.

I’ve learned that the people you surround yourself with help keep your state of mind. If you’re hanging out with someone who is a Negative Nancy then how do you suppose you can be a positive person? Now, I’m not recommending that you drop all of your friends, but no one enjoys being negative, no one. Maybe you and your friend can work on being positive together!

Personally, for example, I used to have a problem with my weight during those wonderful awkward years. I couldn’t run a half a mile without stopping. It was very embarrassing during gym class in elementary/middle school. It wasn’t until high school that I put my mind to getting in shape and finally being able to run that mile.

My parents were “gym rats” and when they said they would pay for a gym membership for me by my high school, I halfheartedly accepted. At first I wasn’t ready, but by sophomore year I was getting up for school packing my own lunch, and a bag for the gym. After school everyday I walked to the gym and remained there for a solid 2 hours(a little excessive), but I loved it! After a few months, I was running for 20 minutes solid, which was way more than a mile and I was dropping weight, 20 pounds in total. I felt so good about myself. I did what I thought I couldn’t do and that was the moment my life started to take a positive turn!

Next time something doesn’t go your way or you think that you can’t: your boss wont let you have that day off, your plane is delayed, lose that extra 5 pounds, etc. I want you to take a step back and come up with three possible situations that could be worse and let it roll off your back.

When things get rough Betties, don’t get down, just think of all the positives. Are you breathing? Can you walk and talk? Do you have a family and friends? Yes! Then consider yourself lucky. We take those people and allowances for granted sometimes and every now and then we need to be reminded of that.

How you portray yourself is how people will read you, remember that!
Keep that glass FULL!

Eyes: 86 Black Circles

OK Betties, it’s now Tuesday. You got through the fateful Monday and your week is progressing until you catch a glimpse of yourself in the mirror and wonder where those dark circles came from.

Trust, this Betty gets plenty of sleep but my hours are awful, I work nights and truthfully I don’t think it matters what hours you sleep as long as you get 8 hours a night on average.

Here’s the thing, if you get enough sleep what are the other solutions, besides make-up?

1. The standard cucumber method or one of those masks you can place in the fridge/freezer, placed especially underneath the eye.

2. Used, cool tea bags. Rest them on your eyes.

3. Keep hydrated! Water is MUST!

If none of those work out, it’s time to break out the wallet.

4. The black circles could very well be the cause of allergies.

  • “To determine why your circles happen, gently stretch the skin under your eyes. If that area becomes darker, the circles are probably due to genetics or aging. If the color doesn’t change, UV rays or allergies are probably the cause.” –www.realsimple.com

5. If thin skin is the issue, use a collagen building cream. (ROC products at local drugstores)

6. If it could be caused by a vascular problem, use two pillows under your head at night.

For quick circle camouflage: apply eye cream and let it dry for a few minutes. Then pat on a creamy concealer that matches your skin tone. Top with a layer of loose powder, which helps prevent makeup from caking in creases.” -www.realsimple.com

Now that you know these easy tips, you better be the best looking Betties in that office tomorrow!
